Three Rivers Pensioners’ Forum Remembrance event

14th November 2019

On Friday 8 November, Three Rivers Pensioners’ Forum hosted their Remembrance event.

The event began at 2pm led by the Lord Lieutenant of Hertfordshire, Robert Voss CBE, talking about his role which includes arranging Her Majesty’s visits, relaying important news and presenting awards on behalf of The Queen, attending civic events, suggesting residents for royal garden parties, and forming close links with the military and emergency services.

Mr Voss showed the first 20 minutes from a version of the film A county At War; Life on the Homefront in Hertfordshire which the audience thoroughly enjoyed. The rest of the film will be shown at the next forum. Mr Voss said: “Thank you for inviting me to the forum, I hope the delegates learnt about my role and some of my duties. The film will resonant with many who live in Hertfordshire. It shows life during the War and what a big part this county played in it. We should never forget the sacrifices made by the people who served their country.”

The audience then listened to songs from the war played and sung by Folk Musicians, Tim and Lesley Brooks. The stage was then taken by Roger Yapp, the author of “Not Just a List of Names”, he shared stories about the men and women from Abbots Langley and Bedmond that served in the Great War.

The next Pensioners’ Forum will be held on 28 February 2020, details will be posted on the noticeboards across the district and social media. For further information please contact
