Have your final say before revised Local Plan is submitted
Residents are being urged to have their final say on a major planning document that acts as a blueprint for new homes and associated infrastructure and employment in Three Rivers.
The district council’s Local Plan is going through its last stage of consultation, known as a Regulation 19 consultation. Unlike previous Regulation 18 consultations, which sought opinions of sites, policies and development across the district more generally, the Regulation 19 consultation is more focused and technical. The role of this consultation is to provide the opportunity for representations to be made on the ‘soundness’ and legal compliance of the plan
The consultation launches on Friday 31 July and ends at 11.59pm on 25 September 2026. Responses will go to the planning inspector who will review them as part of the public examination.
Cllr Stephen Giles-Medhurst OBE, Leader of Three Rivers District Council, said: “Three Rivers is a fantastic place to live, work and visit, and we are determined to make sure that remains the case for future generations.
“Our original Local Plan, which received support from residents, had a housing number of more than 7,000 homes until 2042 but the government believed this should be higher and imposed additional green belt sites.
“We have now incorporated those changes enforced on us. After the examination, expected to be in 2027, the planning inspector will send a revised or unchanged plan back to the council for final adoption, with whatever modifications they determine.
“Your views on the future of Three Rivers are vital. This is your last chance to express your views on the Local Plan and if you wish to participate in the independent examination. So, make sure you have your say today.”
