Two beloved parks in Three Rivers continue to be recognised as well managed after retaining their Green Flag accreditation – the national benchmark for publicly accessible parks and green spaces.

Rickmansworth Aquadrome and Leavesden Country Park, which are owned and managed by Three Rivers District Council, have received the award, which is judged by green space experts. The Green Flag Award scheme recognises and rewards well managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of recreational outdoor spaces across the UK and around the world.

It comes as the internationally recognised standard for parks and green spaces celebrates its 30th year. The sites are two of a record breaking 2,391 in the UK to achieve the award this year.

In addition, Leavesden Country Park has retained its Green Heritage Site Accreditation – which it has held since 2021. Green Heritage Site Accreditation, supported by Historic England, is given in recognition of achieving the required standard in the management and interpretation of a site with local or national historic importance.

Cllr Chris Lloyd, the council’s Lead Member for Leisure, said: “I am proud that the hard work and dedication of our officers, grounds team and volunteers in keeping the Aquadrome and Leavesden Country Park as great places to visit and explore continue to be recognised nationally. Their dedication is nothing less than first class and for that, I say thank you. These parks are appreciated by our Parkrun Community.”

Cllr Stephen Giles-Medhurst OBE, Leader of Three Rivers District Council, said: “We know how much quality green spaces matter to residents and visitors, and that is why we pride ourselves in ensuring our parks and opens are of the highest standard.

“I am delighted that two of our beloved parks have retained their Green Flag status. Both sites have benefited from recent improvement works and funding to ensure they can be enjoyed by future generations to come.”

The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under contract from theMinistry of Housing, Communities & Local Government, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
