Young people and the over 60s will continue to be able to swim for free following the Council budget (Tuesday 21 March).

Young people swimming underwaterUnder 19s who live in Three Rivers will have free swimming during the school holiday periods in 2012/13 including Easter and summer. The over 60s will continue to have two free sessions per week at agreed times.

Council Leader Ann Shaw said:

"We have been determined to continue to provide opportunities for our young people and over 60s to swim safely. Following the Government's cuts in the national scheme last year, free swimming is now funded by the District Council.

"I'm delighted that we have managed to protect the most popular holiday times of the year for youngsters."

The District Council also announced a small increase in other sport and leisure facilities for the coming year as part of its budget. The Council provides other free leisure activities in the district including outdoor gyms and the Play Rangers outdoor activity project.

The free swimming scheme runs at Sir James Altham Pool, South Oxhey, Watford Woodside at Leavesden and William Penn in Maple Cross.
