One week to go – have your say on parish councils

The consultation is part of a legal process called a Community Governance Review (CGR), being carried out by Three Rivers District Council.

The CGR will assess whether residents feel any changes are needed to make their parish council arrangements more effective. It closes on 18 September.

It will examine the current arrangements and follows the government’s decision to restructure local government, replacing county, district and borough councils in Hertfordshire with four unitary authorities. This process of Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) has currently been paused by the government, but was due to take effect by April 2028.

Cllr Stephen Giles-Medhurst OBE, the leader of the council, said: “If you haven’t already done so, don’t miss your chance - now is the moment to have your say. This consultation is being held to find out if people would like any changes to their current parish or community council, and whether the small areas that currently have no parish council would like to have a council.

“Parish councils are the first tier of democracy in England and provide vital local services that can include allotments, community halls and even village fetes. This is your chance to influence the future of local democracy in your area so have your say today.”

Residents can take part in the CGR consultation and give their views on the district’s existing parish and community councils as well as any changes they would like to see.
