Find your polling station with the ‘Where Do I Vote’ widget
09th May 2017
To coincide with the upcoming elections on the 8 June, a polling station location finder in conjunction with Democracy Club, has been added to the Three Rivers District Council website.
The ‘Where Do I Vote’ tool will make it easier for voters to find out their polling station online, by simply typing in their postcode. For more information, visit www.threerivers.gov.uk/egcl-page/your-polling-station
Although all electors will receive their poll card before the election telling them where and when to vote, it is very easy to misplace or lose this information. Therefore, this approach will also help councils to avoid calls on busy election days — and to provide answers outside of a contact centre’s normal opening hours.
Research by Democracy Club suggests that people who are unable to find their polling station feel as though they are being denied a vote, which harms their trust in democracy. The finder particularly benefits voters who are more transient, including young people, who typically register a lower turnout at elections
Steven Halls, Chief Executive of Three Rivers District Council said “Did you know that ‘Where do I vote’ was one of the most Googled UK searches on polling day 2015? This information has previously not been available online… until now”
People already on the electoral register will receive a poll card before the election telling them where and when to vote. If you do not receive one you should contact electoral services on 01923 776611 or email Enquiries@ThreeRivers.gov.uk. Alternatively you can visit the national voter registration website at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.
