Eric Bishop elected Council Chair

22nd May 2015

Eric Bishop, a Councillor from Carpenders Park, has been elected Chairman of the District Council (Tuesday 19 May).

As well as chairing key meetings, the role of Chairman includes making hundreds of visits to community groups in the district and fundraising for charity.

Speaking at the Full Council meeting, Cllr Bishop said:

“There are a lot of small charities that are running services in our community. I want to visit as many as possible this year and honour the people who give up their time to run them.  I will also be visiting places not normally visited including the many scenic places and historic buildings - in order to encourage other people to do the same.

“I will be fundraising this year for Home-Start Watford & Three Rivers which helps local families with young children, and Parkinson’s in West Hertfordshire, which helps sufferers of that awful illness. In addition, I also want to help the Box Cleva group in South Oxhey which brings a lot to the community by teaching young people self-discipline and improving fitness using boxing training.”

In taking up his office, Cllr Bishop paid tribute to the outgoing Chairman, Cllr Chris Lloyd. Cllr Bishop said: “Chris has made over 400 official visits in the last year and I want to follow his excellent work – particularly in his work visiting local schools.”

Eric Bishop took up the role following his position as Vice Chair over the past year. Cllr Kate Turner has been elected Vice Chair for 2015/16.
