Planning certificates warning

Leaflet drops by companies advertising their ability to obtain certificates of lawful development on land which has been refused planning permission are misleading, planning experts have warned.

The leaflets also make no reference to the special restrictions which apply to large parts of Three Rivers and state that ‘usual planning restrictions do not apply’.

Portfolio Holder for the Environment, Cllr Martin Trevett, said:

“I want to prevent a situation where we have to take enforcement action against businesses and private residents because they have, in good faith, been conned by these leaflets.

“Our message is simple – if in doubt, always ring the District Council’s planning department. We’re here to help.”

The District Council will make further announcements on development rights if the Planning Reform Bill is passed by Parliament. Many existing restrictions, including the 21 Conservation Areas in the district, are expected to continue to apply.
