Cubs to visit Amazon
09th November 2011
Cubs in South Oxhey were awarded a £50 Amazon voucher on Monday night (7 November) after winning a special prize in the South Oxhey Initiative art competition
The competition was launched by the District Council before the summer holidays in order to help raise awareness among young people of the proposals to modernise South Oxhey. Consultations are being held, in stages, with adults and young people before initial plans are drafted next year.
The youngsters from 14th Bushey and Oxhey pack ventured out into South Oxhey precinct with their Arkala, William Waite, to draw their ideas for the future of the heart of South Oxhey. Creative ideas in their multiple entries included improvements to the scout hut, a cinema, a pet shop, a new police station and even a helipad.
William Waite was presented with the cubs' prize by District Councillor, Pam Hames and Chair of Watford Rural Parish Council, Pam King.
William Waite said:
"It's important for the youth of today to have a say in what's going on. At the end of the day it is their future. All of our scouts and cub activities include an emphasis on having a say in decision making."
The older, teenage, winners of the South Oxhey Initiative art competition will receive prizes on Monday evening (14 November) at 7:30pm at the Watford Rural Local Area Forum at Oxhey Wood Primary School in Oxhey Drive. The forum will include an update on the South Oxhey Intiative project, including initial results in the District Council's work in consulting primary school children and teenagers from the area.
