Contact Details: National Fraud Initiative
Individual data held by the Council is being sent to the Audit Commission as part of a national data matching exercise aimed at preventing and detecting fraud.
This exercise is carried out every two years and involves not only the collection of data from local authorities but also from other public organisations such as the police, health authorities and the DWP. The Audit Commission compares the different data sets and if any irregularities are identified it passes the details back to the relevant bodies. This exercise allows potentially fraudulent claims and payments to be identified, helping to protect the Council’s public money from abuse.
The Council assures residents that the exercise complies with the requirements of the Data Protection Act and that data is kept secure at all times.
