Three Rivers District Council’s newly launched Environmental Champions Award scheme aims to recognise and celebrate local people and organisations who make outstanding contributions to environmental action and conservation in the district.
The Environmental Champions Award has four categories:
o Young Environmental Champion – for young people under the age of 18 who live in Three Rivers.
o Adult Environmental Champion – for individual adults aged 18 or over who live in Three Rivers.
o Community Environmental Champion – for community groups or organisations located in Three Rivers, including community groups, clubs, societies, schools, and charities.
o Business Environmental Champion – for businesses located in Three Rivers.
Award winners will receive a prize and public recognition at an awards ceremony at the council’s Great Big Green Week event at Watersmeet Theatre on 4 June 2026.
Applications for the Environmental Champions Award must be submitted by 30 April 2026 via a simple online form on the council’s website: https://www.threerivers.gov.uk/services/environment-climate-emergency/environmental-champions-award-2026
The awards scheme will be assessed by a panel of expert judges drawn from local community, voluntary and environmental organisations including Grand Union Community Energy and Watford Three Rivers Trust.
Sarah Burgess, Board Director at Grand Union Community Energy, said: "I'm so excited that everyday Environmental Champions are able to apply for this award and be recognised for the incredible work they do. There are so many great groups and individuals in Three Rivers working relentlessly to make a difference to their local community or who are leading by example to inspire others to waste less and live more sustainably. I'm thrilled to be part of celebrating the incredible people we have in our area and can't wait to see the applications!"
Sonia Evans, CVS Lead at Watford Three Rivers Trust, said:“I would encourage anyone who is making a positive environmental impact, no matter how big or small, to get involved. This is a great platform to celebrate those efforts and inspire others to act.”
