A contract has been signed between Three Rivers District Council and development partners Countryside and Home Group to redevelop central South Oxhey, near Watford. The proposals for the regeneration include over 500 new homes, as well as retail and public spaces, transforming an area that is in need of modernisation and enhancing the quality of life for those that live there.

The regeneration scheme will deliver a mix of homes for sale and rent, in a range of sizes from apartments to family houses. Retail will also be a focus, with a larger food store and other retail units creating a more varied and attractive shopping environment. Plans also incorporate safe and attractive public spaces including a market square and better links to Carpenders Park station. Job opportunities and apprenticeships for local people are also promised during the development’s construction.

Three Rivers District Council selected Countryside and Home Group as preferred bidder for the project in May this year. Countryside’s proposed designs for the redevelopment were exhibited at public consultation events last month. The planning application is due to be submitted in early 2016.

Ann Shaw, Leader of the Council said: “The Council is very pleased to have formally entered into contract with Countryside and Home Group and we are very much looking forward to working in collaboration to deliver the new high quality homes and shops that South Oxhey needs.”

Richard Cherry, Chief Executive of Countryside’s Partnerships division said: “We are pleased to be officially on board and working with Three Rivers District Council to progress our proposals. We have a vision to create an integrated and well-designed new neighbourhood with high quality housing for South Oxhey and we will do that in close partnership with the local community. The initial works are due to commence later in 2016, subject to planning.”

Mark Henderson, Home Group chief executive, said: “It is great that the plans for South Oxhey are moving ahead and that we have forged a partnership focused on creating lasting change for the better for this community. Better standards of housing are desperately needed for local people and our plans will deliver that for hundreds of families.”
