More than 3,000 bookings were made over the summer this year as residents took part in activities provided by their local district council.

Three Rivers District Council arranged a summer packed full of activities for its residents. With free interactive trails and low-cost sport sessions as well as our popular Play Rangers and Playscheme, there were a range options suitable for different ages and interests.

The popular interactive trails at Leavesden Country Park and Oxhey Woods saw nearly 2000 players walk an estimated 5.9 million steps this summer.

The council’s Active Parks sessions saw nearly a 40% increase in attendance. From yoga to Pilates, Zumba to beginners running, over 800 bookings were made this summer. Active Parks was designed to cater for a range of fitness levels and supported residents who were looking for new ways to lead more active lifestyles.

Our popular Play Ranger sessions also saw an increase, with over 1,100 Play Ranger sessions booked this summer. With only an annual membership required at £7 per child, our Play Ranger sessions provide a low-cost way for children to enjoy the outdoors. During the sessions, children are encouraged to play freely, exploring their local woodlands and open spaces, taking part in a range of activities including woodland crafts, tree climbing and outdoor games.

Over 1,300 spaces were booked at our summer Playscheme, providing families with an affordable, Ofsted registered childcare scheme. One parent, who’s children attended Playscheme this summer said: “We were extremely happy with the club. The kids absolutely loved it, felt safe and enjoyed so many different activities. They looked forward to going every day and didn’t want it to finish. Absolutely amazing!”

Cllr Chris Lloyd, the council’s Lead Member for Leisure said: “With the long summer break to plan for, and with the cost of living to take into consideration I am delighted that so many residents took part in the numerous activities we had on offer.

“I am proud that Three Rivers continues to support our residents to lead healthier and more active lifestyles”.

Other activities that took place over the summer included free Wild Play sessions, free guided walks and storytelling, art workshops, keep fit sessions and tailored Parkinson classes.
