Medical requirements for Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Drivers

New drivers / Renewing drivers medicals

As part of the application requirements, applicants for hackney carriage or private hire driver licences must obtain and submit a medical report completed by their own GP*.

The medical form can be downloaded here: Medical report form (pdf)

The applicant will need to make an appointment with their GP and pay any fees required.

Medical practitioners are asked to confirm that the applicant complies with the group two medical standards, set by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA). Read the DVLA medical standards for a summary.

The medical, once completed, must be emailed to licensing.team@threerivers.gov.uk. This document must be received by Three Rivers District Council within 3 months of the Doctor signing it.

All new applicants are required to produce a medical report when they apply for their first licence.

Once licensed drivers are required to submit a group 2 medical report every 3 years until the age of 65. License holders aged 65 and over and insulin dependent licence holders are required to submit a group 2 medical annually.

*Please note that we will only accept medicals completed by your own GP or a GP at the shared practice where they have access to your patient records. Medicals completed by other clinics or practices where the applicant is not permanently registered will not be accepted.
