Head of Planning Policy and Conservation

The Department:
Three Rivers District Council is a high-achieving organisation at the leading edge of public services and its Planning Policy & Conservation team is responsible for the preparation of the local plan, neighbourhood planning, annual monitoring reports, heritage assets and the South West Herts joint strategic plan. On the fringe of London, the District is experiencing significant development pressure and has a varied built and natural environment including 22 conservation areas, numerous listed buildings and a large number of designated wildlife sites. As well as much of the District being within the Metropolitan Green Belt, part is within the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

This is a key role leading on all aspects of policy relating to planning policy and conservation, ensuring sustainable development in the Three Rivers District. You will lead and manage a small professional team that plays a pivotal part in delivering the Three Rivers Local Plan.

What we are looking for:
We are looking to appoint a highly motivated individual with significant experience in planning policy and detailed working knowledge of the legislation and policy guidance relating to local plans. As well as utilising your technical knowledge and skills, you will need to draw on your well-developed communication skills to work effectively with senior officers, council Members and other stakeholders in a variety of settings.
