Chair of Three Rivers District Council
Introducing the Chair,
Cllr Debbie Morris
I’m honoured to be serving as the Chair of Three Rivers District Council for the year to May 2023. I’m very much looking forward to representing the council at events and supporting organisations where my attendance will help boost community initiatives and engagement.
Pets As Therapy (PAT) is my chosen charity. It’s a small national charity with an active presence in the district. Its objective is to enhance people’s health and wellbeing through companion animal therapy. Volunteers and their temperament-assessed pets visit schools, care homes, hospices and hospitals where they improve educational outcomes, stimulate memories and relieve anxiety in those respective settings. However, there are insufficient numbers of volunteers to meet demand so anyone who has a friendly pet and can give an hour a week to this amazing charity is asked to get in touch.
Since being elected to Three Rivers District Council as one of the ward members for Moor Park & Eastbury in 2014, I’ve served on almost every council committee and last year, was Vice-Chair. This has enabled me to develop a sound understanding of the workings of the council.
My background is as a litigation lawyer and community volunteer. In the latter capacity, I’ve been a bereavement support visitor, Citizens Advice Bureau adviser and member of the Northwood United Synagogue Council. Other activities have included Holocaust education and residents’ association work.
Andrew Morris, my husband, is my consort during my year in office. I’m very grateful for his support.
