Apprenticeship Testimonials

ET1I am Mark Nicholas and I joined Three Rivers District Council (TRDC) on 21 January 2019. I having just completed my A levels,

I was open to career opportunities as I wanted to work and study at the same time.

I saw a job advert for the position for a Finance Apprentice within TRDC and immediately applied for it as it seemed the perfect opportunity for me, I had heard good things about TRDC, which is local to me plus I knew I would get the training and qualifications with this position. I started working within the Finance Department working on processing invoices, dealing with enquiries while learning more about the team and financial systems.  I have progressed to dealing with treasury and income management too.

I am also studying to secure my AAT level 3 and will then proceed to the next level up.

I thoroughly enjoy my role, environment and getting to know people across TRDC. I am also learning about politics and getting to know our Councillors. I am aiming to build a long-term career here.

I highly recommend apprenticeships to those people that want to work, learn, get training, be paid get qualified and prove themselves to be a worthy investment. Of course, it is great if you could secure one at TRDC because you get to work within a huge ‘family’ that will look after you.

I'm Ahmed Moussa, I joined TRDC in January 2019.ahmed-moussa-1-.jpg

I found out about this finance apprenticeship role on a job board which really appealed to me, so I decided to try my luck and filled in the application form. After reading my contract and finding out about the potential opportunities, I gratefully accepted the offer and was excited and looking forward to my first day here.

Since that day, I had learned a great deal about the finance sector, including how various accounts are prepared from large-scale payments and income. Certainly feels very different t studying thermodynamics or quantum field theory back at university!

Despite having a little-to-zero background in finance, it wasn’t too much of a steep transition since I have a knack for dealing with numbers and enjoy problem-solving. Everyone has been supportive in training me on the systems and teaching me in incremental, digestible steps as opposed to being thrown straight into the deep end.

I work in a great team whom I’m enjoying getting to know. Overall, it’s been really terrific working here, and I never look back.

So whether you’ve just completed your A-Levels or have graduated from university, apprenticeship routes are a way forward to grow, develop your skillsets further and have open doors to various opportunities.

I started working at Three Rivers District Council (TRDC) as a Customer Service Representative in March 2017.  TRDC encourages staff to progress in house so when the chance to become a Legal Apprentice came up, I jumped at the opportunity!

I studied Law when I was at college and really enjoyed it.  I was extremely fortunate enough to be offered my new position as a Legal Apprentice which allows me to train in house as part of the legal term whilst also completing a CILEX Level 3 Paralegal qualification at the local college.

I started working in the Legal team in early December of 2018.  The Legal team of solicitors and assistants are extremely welcoming and helpful and I settled in straight away. Within my first week, I attended my first master class under the CILEX programme at my local college. I have now completed the first year of my qualification and am looking forward to what’s in store next.

I would recommend an apprenticeship to anyone no matter what your age. If you’re looking for a new challenge, careers change and the chance to gain a qualification this is the perfect route for you.
