More than a hundred young people wowed the crowds with their skills as they took part in a huge public contest of scooting, skateboarding and BMXing at Croxley Green Skate Park.

The annual Skate Jam is organised by Three Rivers District Council's Leisure Team and has been running for over ten years. Some amazing tricks were seen throughout the day with the judges facing tough choices in picking the winners from over 140 entrants across a number of categories.

Best scooting trick of the day (in the advanced session) went to Taylor Barden whilst Bailey Brown scooped Best Beginner Trick of the Day for his skateboarding skills. Further prizes were won by Josh Hanson in Best Beginner scooting and Benjamin Burmigham for his skateboarding disciplines.

The ‘Jams’ are a mix of friendly competitions open to everyone at all levels. Participants also had the chance to receive skateboard coaching from ABC Skateboarding.

Cllr Debbie Morris, Chair of Three Rivers District Council, handed out some of the prizes which were generously sponsored by Croxley Green Parish Council, Source BMX, Enuff Skateboards, REKD Protection and Slamm Scooters.

She said: “It's great to see local young people enjoying the skate park and participating in such an enjoyable event. Skating, scooting and BMXing help young people keep active, stay healthy and build confidence.”

When off the wheels, participants and spectators were able to enjoy an inflatable gladiator jousting arena, sumo wrestling and graffiti workshops. The Corner Plaice fish and chip restaurant provided free food to all entrants to the competitions.

Cllr Chris Lloyd, Lead Member for Leisure at Three Rivers District Council, who also attended the event added: “The skate jam continues to be a huge success with sports, music and great weather which gave the Jams a real festival feel. Thank you to all the sponsors for donating prizes for the event and to The Corner Plaice for providing the food.”
