The Carols in the Park annual event took place on 12 December and the doors were officially opened to the Leavesden HIVE (Heritage, Information, Volunteers, Education).

Leavesden HIVE will be fully open to the public from January 2019 and is already hosting a wide variety of community, Heritage and wildlife activities.

This eco building, with a modular construction creates opportunities for outdoor learning and environmental citizenship.  It features a six leaf bi-fold door system with a stunning Contravision ‘wrap’ image of the park in spring, allowing one side of the building to be fully open providing easy, outdoor access for learning within the park. It also boasts a covered canopy area, which will provide shelter for outdoor use in all weathers.

Leavesden HIVE provides a home for a wide range of nature activities for the community and educational activities for schools, a meeting point for the ‘Friends of’ Leavesden Country Park and local Historical Societies and a focal point for the Heritage and wildlife activities throughout the year.

Phil Williams, Chairman of Three Rivers District Council said: “It was good to see so many key stakeholders who have been involved in the development of the Leavesden HIVE and brought this project to life.”

Sara Bedford, Leader of the Council, added: “It’s been great working with so many partners to celebrate the heritage that is so important to the local community. Everyone is invited to come along to learn more about the wildlife and heritage of the park by taking part in the fantastic activities on offer to explore, discover and learn.”

Three Rivers District Council would like to thank all their valued partners in the journey to achieve this exciting and innovative project, in particular, the National Lottery players without whom this great work would not have been possible.
