Fly tipper fined for dumping waste at Oxhey Jets Football Club

A fly tipper has been convicted for illegally dumping a tipper load of household waste at Oxhey Jets Football Club.
The man, 37 from Essex, pleaded guilty at Luton Magistrates Court on 31 March 2026 to fly-tipping, after his involvement in a large-scale fly-tip at Oxhey Jets Football Club in Altham Way on 6 January 2025, where approximately 12 tipper loads of waste were deposited throughout the night. Unfortunately, no other offenders were identified.
Three Rivers District Council's Environmental Enforcement Team traced one of the tips back to a household in Essex and secured evidence that led to the successful prosecution.
The man - who cooperated with the investigation and offered a guilty plea at the earliest opportunity - was convicted of fly-tipping and failing in his duty of care to dispose of controlled waste appropriately and was ordered to pay compensation of £1000, a fine of £200 for depositing at a location without an environmental permit plus a victim’s surcharge of £80.
Last month, the council secured convictions of two men illegally dumping commercial waste at the club’s site as well as Sir James Altham Swimming Pool in 2022.
Emma Sheridan, Three Rivers District Council’s Associate Director for Environment, said: “It was extremely disheartening to see the Oxhey Jets Football Club, which is highly cherished by the local community, be hit with such a large fly-tip. I am pleased our officers secured a conviction of this fly-tip and for the 2022 fly-tip.
“Let this be a reminder to anyone who disregards our district that we will use all resources available to us to prosecute. If you come across any fly-tipped waste, please report to the council. However, if you see fly-tipping in progress please report to the police.”
