Leader calls for a world ‘free from discrimination’ as Pride Month starts

Pride Month has been marked by raising the Progress Pride Flag over the headquarters of Three Rivers District Council in Rickmansworth.
Council Leader, Cllr Stephen Giles-Medhurst, said: “Raising the Progress Pride Flag over our offices to mark the start of the great and important Pride month shows once again our support for the wider Three Rivers community. As a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community myself, I am honoured to lead this council in showing its fulsome support for this international month of awareness, celebration and recognition.
“The LGBTQ+ community has made and continues to make such significant contributions to society and yet continues to face challenges in the modern world. I think especially at this time of year of those who live across the world in areas which have less progressive attitudes towards the LGBTQ+ community. I look forward to living in a world free from that sort of discrimination, where people feel free to be who they are and live the lives they want to. That’s what Pride is all about.”
Council Chair, Cllr Stephen King, Deputy Council Leader Cllr Sarah Nelmes, council officers, representatives from Herts Pride, Impactful Governance and partner organisations joined in raising the flag at Three Rivers House in Rickmansworth to celebrate, commemorate and recognise lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender pride on Tuesday morning.
