A partnership of Hertfordshire based organisations has produced an information guide for the county’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans* community and those questioning their identity (LGBT*Q). To celebrate LGBT History Month, Three Rivers District Council co-sponsored the production of the LGBT*Q Guide for Hertfordshire.

LGBT*Q was officially launched by human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell who also gave a lecture at the University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield.

The guide includes information and contact details about everything from health, housing and coming out to support groups, getting married and parenting.

James Holland, Inclusion & Engagement Team Manager for Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust, said: “As a provider of mental health and wellbeing services we are only too aware of the positive affect of allowing people to be themselves when using services and working for us.

“We know people perform better and are happier when they can be themselves and we are committed to supporting this.”

The guide was produced in response to the social isolation and prejudice that some members of the LGBT*Q still experience and offers a ‘go to’ guide for advice and support.

It also helps raise awareness of the county’s diverse communities which is also celebrated through the work of Herts Pride which has been running the annual Herts Pride festival in Watford since 2013.

The 50 page guide has been funded by a partnership of organisations including Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust, Hertfordshire County Council, Herts Valleys Clinical Commissioning Group, B3 Living, Watford Community Housing Trust, Stevenage Borough Council, Three Rivers District Council, Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, Welwyn Hatfield Community Safety Partnership, Hertsmere Borough Council and Hertfordshire Constabulary.
