14 teams from primary schools from around Three Rivers took part in the District Kwik Cricket Festival last Friday at Chorleywood Cricket Club.

The festival saw schools battle it out in the rain for the chance to compete in the County tournament at Shenley Cricket ground on 28th June. The event was organised by Three Rivers District Council whose work in providing leisure services and promoting local health is one of its four main aims.

Russell School from Chorleywood bowled everyone over with their excellent displays of both batting and fielding, to become the eventual winners of the day after winning all of their group matches and going on to beat St. Peters JMI School in the final.

Three Rivers' portfolio holder for leisure, Councillor Chris Whately- Smith, said:

"A wide choice of activities is vital for our children's healthy development and 'kwik cricket' is a great introduction to this popular sport.

"There was lots of excellent cricket being played and it was a great day, despite the rain. I was particularly pleased that so many schools from across Three Rivers were competing. Good luck to Russell School in the County tournament in June."
