Full Parking enforcement resumes on 15 June

Three Rivers District Council, in line with most councils in England, is resuming parking enforcement as from Monday 15th June.

Three Rivers District Council, in line with most councils in England, is resuming parking enforcement as from Monday 15th June.

As a response to the current situation and the lockdown, the Council relaxed normal parking arrangements in late March 2020.  Parking charges were suspended in the Council’s car parks and drivers were not penalised for parking without the relevant permits.  Enforcement action was only taken against vehicles that have been parked dangerously, blocked junctions, or caused an obstruction. With continuing plans to ease the lockdown the Council is reintroducing parking restrictions and charges from the 15 June with full enforcement.

Cllr Stephen Giles-Medhurst, Lead Member for Transport, said: “With more businesses opening we do understand that more residents will be going to our shopping centres, towns and villages. I urge wherever possible for residents to walk or cycle, both being healthy and good exercise rather than reverting to a car, especially for short journeys.”

Motorists will need to hold a permit or visitor voucher when parking in a permit bay and will need to purchase a pay and display voucher when parked in a pay and display car park.  Permit holders and visitor voucher holders are no longer able to park on yellow lines during restricted times.

To compensate for the three months reduced service existing permits will be extended by 3 months at the permit renewal time.  If permits have expired during this period then you will be contacted to renew your permit and this will also be extended.

Health care and critical workers displaying the national parking pass issued by their employer can continue to park in permit bays and pay and display bays in car parks free of charge.

Cllr Stephen Giles-Medhurst, Lead Member for Transport, added: “It is important to manage traffic and the travel measures implemented to enable pedestrians and cyclists to maintain social distancing. We also want to support local businesses and allow people to park safely whilst adhering to social distancing measures. We urge all motorists to exercise social distancing when accessing and leaving your vehicle and paying to park.”
