Thousands of pounds raised at Chair’s charity quiz night

Laughs were shared, knowledge was put to the test, and thousands of pounds were raised for two charities at the Chair’s annual quiz night.
The Chair’s Big Quiz Night, organised by Cllr Raj Khiroya, the outgoing Chair of Three Rivers District Council, raised an estimated £20,000 for women’s cancers public and patient involvement and engagement organisation Go Further and Jalaram Homeless Soup Kitchen, which operates every Friday at Charing Cross .
230 participants brought a tremendous buzz to the friendly competition as they tested their knowledge on various subjects at Watersmeet Theatre in Rickmansworth on Friday, 9 May, in a bid to win some amazing prizes generously donated by acquaintances and local businesses.
Following six rounds of 10 questions, which covered everything from general knowledge to films to British history, a raffle and an auction took place for people to bid to win some fabulous prizes.
Cllr Raj Khiroya said: “When I was re-appointed as Chair last year, I promised I would go further and raise £20,000. It was an ambitious target, but I am very proud to say we have raised that money for these invaluable charities, which I believe is the most raised by a Chair of Three Rivers District Council to date. I am grateful for the support I received with a full house at Watersmeet Theatre and generous online donations from people unable to attend the quiz night but wanted to support the good cause.
“Seeing everyone that night having fun and helping to raise money for my chosen charities reminds me why this district is so great. I feel so proud and grateful to be part of this community, and I would like to thank everyone for their attendance as well as the staff at Watersmeet Theatre for hosting the event.”
Cllr Stephen King took the reins as Chair of Three Rivers District Council from Cllr Khiroya at the Annual Full Council meeting on Tuesday, 20 May 2025.
