Residents thanked for keeping Three Rivers a top recycler
After figures revealed that Three Rivers District Council is the second to top authority for recycling in England, residents are being asked to complete a survey to help the district reach number one next year.
The council has been among the top for recycling in England every year for more than a decade.
And this week Cllr Sarah Nelmes, the council’s Deputy Leader and Lead Member for Recycling, said the council’s achievement was down, in no small part, to the dedication of residents.
Cllr Nelmes said: “I would like to thank all those in Three Rivers who have been so diligent in their recycling, their commitment has and continues to be fantastic. Recycling and composting are essential in our effort to keep resources in use for longer as we work to protect our community and reduce dependence on raw materials.
“We continue to proudly share where your waste and recycling goes, and what happens to it. In 2022/23, more than 72% of the county’s household waste was recycled right here in the UK, including over 90% of plastics collected”.
The data, published by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) in March, showed that Three Rivers achieved a recycling rate of 61.9% in 2023/24.
To better understand how confident residents feel about recycling from home, what affects recycling habits, and how the service can be improved, the council is asking residents to complete a short survey. It only takes a few minutes and will directly influence how the council shapes the future of recycling in Three Rivers.
The council encourages all residents to continue to reduce waste where possible, particularly that which is not reusable or recyclable.
