The Armed Forces flag flies high at Three Rivers District Council’s head office in Rickmansworth to show support for the British Armed Forces.

In honour of Armed Forces Day, taking place tomorrow (27 June), the council has held a flag raising ceremony at Three Rivers House to show public support and gratitude for the contributions made by servicemen and women past and present.

Leader of the council, Cllr Stephen Giles-Medhurst OBE said: “It is an honour to mark Armed Forces Day – by raising the flag we publicly show our support to all those who have served or are currently serving in our Armed Forces.

“No matter how you served or what support you gave, I would like to say thank you to all service personnel, veterans, reservists, cadets, and their families. Thank you for your bravery and your extraordinary service to our country.”

Cllr Keith Martin, Chair of the council, said: "It is important that we continue to commemorate those who have fought and are currently serving to protect our freedom. Our thoughts are with all those who have served our country, those who continue to serve, and we remember those who we have lost.”

The annual event is a chance for the public to show their support to the Armed Forces community and is designed to provide a much-valued morale boost for the troops and their families.

Joining Cllrs Martin and Giles-Medhurst was Cllr Louise Price, Deputy Leader of Three Rivers District Council, Cllr Oliver Cooper, Leader of the Conservative Group, Cllr Narinder Sian, Deputy Leader of The Green Group, Cllr Jon Tankard, the council's Armed Forces Champion, Fabian Hiscock from Three Rivers Museum Trust, Paul Harding from the Royal British Legion, Luther Blissett OBE and Lauren Fox from Forces United Veterans Together, and Flight Lieutenant Claire Hood from Northwood Headquarters Base.

Although Armed Forces Day is not a charitable event, the Armed Forces have the support of several UK charities and many local events will offer opportunities to support them.
