Residents are advised to plan ahead as the Ebury play area and the pedestrian bridge at the popular Rickmansworth Aquadrome will be closed for a week.

To facilitate the major improvement bridge works off Riverside Drive - next to the play area - later this year, some trees and shrubs surrounding the bridge will have to be cleared.

This will mean the bridge and the play area will be closed for five working days from Monday 23 September 2024. During this time there will be a diversion route in place (see map below). Please follow the diversion (red line) below for access between the Aquadrome and the town centre. Directional signage will be in place at the time of the closure. Visitors will not be able to walk around the entirety of Batchworth Lake or use the toilets located by the water ski club on Monday 23 and Tuesday 24 September, due to the footpath closure of the area between the pedestrian bridge and the waterski club.

Emma Sheridan, Three Rivers District Council’s Associate Director for Environment, said: “Work on the new pedestrian bridge is due to get underway soon. It will be wider, which will improve access to the much-loved Rickmansworth Aquadrome for the years to come. The current bridge is not sustainable and by investing in a new bridge, we can ensure it is fit for purpose and avoid further disruptive works.

“To install the new bridge some trees and shrubs will need to be removed, however, they are of a poor quality and many new and replacement trees will be planted nearby, and in the play area once the works have been completed.

“We know the Rickmansworth Aquadrome and Ebury play area are loved and well-used by residents and visitors. We apologise for the temporary disruption, and we are striving to keep this to a minimum. We will be putting up signage warning people of the works taking place as well as diversion signs in advance.”

Later this year, the pedestrian bridge and play area will be closed again to facilitate works for a new bridge, which will be up to 3 metres wide - double in width of the old one. This means both pedestrians and cyclists can pass each other safely. The council will be communicating further information on this closure in due course.
