Totally Spooking Out Trail at Rickmansworth Aquadrome

This October through to November, a spook-tacular and interactive augmented reality trail is launching at Rickmansworth Aquadrome, offering families a fun, free, and safe way to celebrate the Halloween period.

From 16 October to 15 November, Three Rivers District Council has teamed up with High Street Safari to present ‘Totally Spooking Out!’. This free trail invites families to hunt for 10 spooky masks belonging to classic Halloween characters, such as witches, mummies, and ghouls, displayed on the trees around the Aquadrome.

The innovative experience offers a unique digital twist on fancy dress. Upon scanning a QR code on each mask, players can virtually try on the mask to take a spooky selfie. At each stop, players can then watch the full character from the mask burst to life in augmented reality right in front of them.

The ‘Totally Spooking Out!’ trail is located at ten stops around Rickmansworth Aquadrome. The trail takes approximately 45 minutes to complete but can be completed in more than one visit. It’s completely free for families to take part in, and they will win a free, digital fun pack at the end.

So, why not join the spooky mission this October between 16 October – 15 November. To start the adventure, families should head to Rickmansworth Aquadrome and look for the first vinyl marker on a tree through the site.

How to play

🔍 Find all 10-character masks hidden in windows around town. Can you spot the witch, the mummy, the ghoul, and more?

📱 Scan the QR code on each mask with your smartphone to begin the magic.

🤳 Try on the Mask! Watch as the mask magically appears on your face in AR. Snap a hilarious, spooky selfie to share with friends and family!

👻 Meet the Character! After taking your selfie, watch as the full character bursts to life in augmented reality right in front of you.

🏆 Complete the trail! Find all 10 masks to unlock your free, fun-filled digital activity pack as a reward!

How do I scan QR codes?

Most modern phones now automatically scan QR codes simply by opening your camera app and pointing at them. If your phone doesn’t have this capability, you can download an app that reads QR codes instead. To make sure you successfully collect all the eggs, please use the SAME phone and web browser (e.g., Chrome) for the whole trail.
