Play equipment removed over safety

Three Rivers District Council prioritises safety as it takes the difficult decision to remove some equipment from two play areas.
An annual inspection by an external company has highlighted that certain play equipment will need to be decommissioned from the King George V play area in Mill End and Ashburnham Drive play area in South Oxhey with immediate effect.
Where possible the council intends to change, refresh or replace the equipment and is in the process of obtaining quotes and timescales.
The equipment affected includes:
KGV Play Area, Mill End
- Zip wire
- Trampoline
- Cantilever swings
Ashburnham Drive Play Area, South Oxhey
- Cradle swings
- Cantilever swings
- Log climber
- Zip wire
The remaining equipment in the two play areas is safe to use.
Cllr Chris Lloyd, Lead Member for Leisure, said: “We have taken the very difficult decision to remove some of the play equipment in those two play areas as risk of accidents due to the usage of the equipment has increased. We are committed to ensuring the two play areas are safe and to get then back and running for families to continue to enjoy.
“While it is pleasing to see that the equipment is popular, I appreciate and understand the frustration parents, families and children will have but health and safety must always be our first priority.
“Some of the equipment will be removed by our Grounds Maintenance Team while the remaining bulky items will be removed by an external company. These may be temporarily fenced off, so please respect and follow the signage.
“In the meantime, you can find your nearest play area here. We apologise for the inconvenience and thank everyone for their patience and understanding.”
