Under the Homelessness Reduction Act we have a duty to provide free advice and assistance to anyone who is eligible.
The Act places duties on local authorities to prevent and relieve homelessness and is designed to extend entitlements to assistance, emphasis on a more customer-focused journey and personalised statutory homelessness service. The Act also places a renewed focus on the prevention of homelessness and local joint working with partner agencies.
You are 'threatened with homelessness' and you are likely to be homeless within the next 56 days or you've received a section 21 notice from your landlord we will work with you to prevent your homelessness. Our main aim is to try and keep you in your home.
If you are eligible for assistance we will assess your situation taking into consideration your needs and provide you with a personalised housing plan. The aim of the plan is to help you remain in your home or find an alternative option.
We will work with you for a minimum of 56 days if you are threatened with homelessness and a further 56 days if you become homeless.
You may qualify for temporary accommodation while the council looks into your situation if the council has reason to believe you are homeless and in priority need.
If you're still homeless after 56 days, the council will decide whether they owe you a full housing duty. However you will not qualify unless you:
