Museum congratulated on accreditation

The Chair and Leader of Three Rivers District Council congratulated a local museum for being awarded accredited status by the Arts Council.
The Three Rivers Museum in Rickmansworth received the status in December 2025, confirming that the museum meets national standards for governance, collections care, and public engagement.
The museum has been supporting local learning about the heritage and history of the Three Rivers area in Basing House, which is owned and maintained by the district council, since 1987.
Cllr Stephen King, Chair of the district council, and Cllr Stephen Giles-Medhurst OBE, Leader, along with the Lord Lieutenant of Hertfordshire, Batchworth Community Council and local residents attended a reception at the museum to congratulate and celebrate the volunteers’ hard work and achievement on Friday 30 January.
Cllr King said: “Huge congratulations to the museum volunteers for this amazing achievement. For nearly forty years, the volunteers have worked incredibly hard to educate our residents, visitors and young people on what life was like in Three Rivers and I am very pleased to see that work and their dedication recognised."
Cllr Giles-Medhurst added: “The amazing volunteers have worked tirelessly to collect and communicate our local history and preserve what is best about the district. They truly deserve this great achievement.
“The support the council has given to the museum ever since their first set up in the corner of the former council office in 1987 has been unwavering. We will continue to support this highly valued educational and cultural institution so that the current and next generation can learn what life was like in Three Rivers.”
The chairman of the museum, Fabian Hiscock, said: “This is a fine recognition of the work done over many years by our predecessors as well as more recently by us. We now go forward with confidence to write the next chapter in the life of our small museum, and to tell the story of Three Rivers in new and enthralling ways. We’re very grateful for the support of our volunteers and members, as well as of our council and local groups, and we look forward to more people coming to join the work we do.”
