Three Rivers Leah loses her long locks

Three Rivers District Council’s staff member, Leah Goodhew, donated her long locks on Saturday 26 October 2019. She donated 15.5 Inches of her hair, having had long hair for 21 years of her life.

Leah said: “My hair has given me confidence and made me very happy. Despite this, I donated it so that it could make someone else feel happy and confident throughout their very difficult treatments.”

Leah could not imagine not being able to have hair to plait or curl. Yet she decided instead of just cutting her hair and a lot of hair going to waste, she could change someone else’s life and make them feel special. She chose to have her hair chopped off at Tony & Guy in Harrow for charity.

She added: “I think that children and young adults having to go through these treatments are very strong, brave and inspirational. Cutting my hair is nothing compared to what they have to deal with day-to-day. Hopefully, my hair can help towards making those treatments and losing their hair a little easier.”

The donation was made to the  Little Princess Trust  which provides free real hair wigs to children and young people who have lost their hair through cancer treatment or other conditions. Leah said anyone can donate their hair as long as it is not all grey and that they can give at least seven inches of it.

She now feels free and quite liberated. Her hair is much shorter and easier to manage. What really makes her smile is knowing that someone, somewhere suffering hair loss as a result of cancer treatment or other illnesses will be making use of her hair. A certificate thanking her for her donation reminds her to inspire others to do the same.

Wigs are given to children and young adults, up to the age of 24, free of charge.
