Three Rivers District Council is celebrating International Women’s Day on March 8. The theme this year is #EachforEqual, an equal world is an enabled world.

Three Rivers is one of only a small number of councils, and the only one in Hertfordshire that has both a female leader and chief executive. In addition, the council has a number of other senior women including the Chairman, Director of Finance, Solicitor to the Council and half of the heads of service.

Kimberley Rowley, Head of Regulatory Services, said: “Having started my career at Three Rivers over 20 years ago, I have been encouraged over the years to secure promotion, whilst having the opportunity to study, attain qualifications and been given time to start and grow my family.

“Part time working and flexibility has been fully supported which has enabled a good work, home life balance. Women are strongly represented across the organisation at a senior management level and I relish working with experienced and professional colleagues in a high performing Council.”

Sara Bedford, Leader of the Council, added: “Three Rivers works hard to attract and retains a diverse range of staff and supports those staff at each stage of their working lives. We are gender blind and employ and promote on talent and ability alone, enabling the council to have a balanced senior team. We have a gender pay gap in favour of women, but that has arisen naturally through our fair and open recruitment and development.

“I am proud to work within a diverse workforce that has women from many backgrounds. I am delighted to celebrate International Women’s Day with past, current and future female leaders from across the world.”
