Three Rivers District Council welcomed Year 6 pupils at St Marys School Rickmansworth who held a formal debate in their Council chamber chaired by Chairman, Cllr Paula Hiscocks.

The lively debate was about raising the age of criminal responsibility in England and Wales from 10 to 16 years.

Cllr Hiscocks commented on the confidence and eloquence with which the children debated. “They listened intently and politely to one another, and we had several instances of cross-questioning.

“They would make excellent councillors, and I would welcome them to any council meeting” she said.

The vote was close: 10 for, 15 against and three abstentions.
