Information appeal on puppies dumped near busy motorways

People who may have information on four puppies that were found dumped near busy motorways are being urged to come forward.
Two Patterdale crosses, aptly named Oliver Twist and Artful Dodger by the vet, were found on 13 January by a member of the public. Another two Patterdale crosses, named Bill and Ted by another vet, were discovered four weeks later by another member of the public.
All four male pups, which were aged 4 – 6 months at the time of discovery, were found abandoned near the M1and M25, a 15-minute drive from each other. They all showed signs of neglect – untreated mange with loss of fur, skin infections, had worms and extreme bad smell and needed urgent veterinary treatment.
Three Rivers District Council’s Animal Welfare & Licensing Inspector, Carmen Zapatero, who enforces animal welfare legislation and licenses commercial animal premises in the area, is urging anyone with knowledge of the abandoned puppies to contact the district council.
Carmen said: “These poor puppies were in a neglected state and were dumped by busy roads where they could have easily been seriously harmed. This is not just inhumane, it is illegal.
“Battersea have already rehomed Oliver Twist and Artful Dodger and the other two are recovering well in kennels where they will be taken to Battersea shortly to help find them their forever homes. If anyone wants to offer a home or wants to donate for their care then please go on to the Battersea website https://donate.battersea.org.uk/appeals/default/
“We suspect these puppies came from the same household and believe there could be more of the same litter out there in the same or even worse state. If you recognise or know anything about these puppies, please don’t hesitate to contact the council so we can find the other puppies and investigate the matter further. All information will be treated in strictest confidence."
If anyone has information of where these pups came from then please contact Three Rivers District Council on 01923 776611 or email animal.control@threerivers.gov.uk, any information received will be treated with the strictest confidence.
