The key themes, priorities and aims that will direct local government in Three Rivers over the next three years have been set out in a bold new plan.

Three Rivers District Council has outlined its objectives in an overarching strategy, recently approved and adopted by councillors.

The three year Council Plan outlines a vision based on four key themes: healthy, safe and thriving communities; a green and sustainable future; a prosperous and vibrant district, and a well-run council.

Council leader, Cllr Stephen Giles-Medhurst OBE, said: “I want to see a district made up of healthy, safe and thriving communities—one where people of all ages can access quality health and leisure facilities, where planning applications that promote healthier environments are supported, and where the council works closely with volunteer organisations to ensure the best results for vulnerable residents.

“This new Council Plan is ambitious, imaginative and driven by a desire to serve our communities. So, whilst we will soon be experiencing a new era in local government, I say let that new era begin with this vision, with these aims and themes harmoniously working to make this district now and forever a great place to live, work and visit.”

The new Council Plan comes into effect ahead of planning Local Government Reorganisation (LGR), which will see district, borough and county councils replaced by new unitary councils by April 2028.

Cllr Giles-Medhurst added: “This plan will form the legacy of Three Rivers District Council, and whilst this council is expected to be replaced by a new authority in 2028 – the themes and objectives outlined in this document will guide this council up to that date, and we hope its legacy will guide whatever authority replaces it.”
