Press ReleaseUpdated: 14 March 2024Your Council

A charity quiz which brought the local community together for an evening of fun and knowledge has been declared a resounding success after raising thousands of pounds for ovarian and prostate cancer charities.

The Chair’s Big Quiz Night, organised by Cllr Raj Khiroya, the Chair of Three Rivers District Council, raised £4,500 for charities Ovacome, in partnership with Target Ovarian, and Friends of Prostate Sufferers.

The event was held at Moor Park Mansion near Rickmansworth on Saturday 9 March, with 108 participants eager to test their trivia skills. The atmosphere was electric with friendly competition and lively discussions as teams battled it out across a variety of quiz rounds covering everything from general knowledge to pop culture.

The funds raised will be split between the three charities - directly supporting their work in providing essential services, research, and advocacy for those affected by these cancers.

Cllr Raj Khiroya said: "We are thrilled with the success of the Charity Quiz Night. It was fantastic to see so many people come together for a fun evening while raising awareness for such important causes. The funds raised will make a real difference in the fight against ovarian and prostate cancer. A huge thank you to Moor Park Golf Club and their staff for hosting the event in fine style and to the two entertaining quiz masters – all attendees, without exception, offered glowing reviews.

“I must say a special thank you to Cllr Rue Grewal, herself a stage 4 ovarian cancer survivor, who helped out on the night and spoke briefly and bravely of her own journey.”

By bringing the community together and sparking conversations, the quiz night helped to educate participants about the signs and symptoms of both ovarian and prostate cancer, potentially leading to earlier diagnoses and improved health outcomes.

Cllr Khiroya added: “The success of the Charity Quiz Night paves the way for future events. With its engaging format and focus on a worthy cause, the quiz night has proven to be a powerful tool for fostering community spirit, raising awareness, and securing vital funds for cancer research and support.”
