Christmas safety tips to help residents stay safe this Christmas.

The campaign shares practical advice and reminders on a range of safety topics including personal safety and home security:

12 Days of Christmas Safety Tips

Day 1: Drink alcohol responsibly. Wherever the celebration, everyone should promote safe behaviour.

Day 2: Plan your night out, tell someone where you’re going and when you’ll be back.

Day 3: You, your family or friends should not walk home alone, remember safety in numbers. If you have no option, walk-in well-lit areas.

Day 4: Take care when carrying your handbag, smartphone or tablet in crowded areas and never leave them unattended.

Day 5: Watch out for pickpockets. Keep bags zipped and don’t put your wallet in your back pocket. Take care where you store coats and bags when out.

Day 6: At cash machines, only take out as much money as you need. Cover your pin number. If you believe the machine has been compromised report it.

Day 7: Take care of your Christmas shopping and never leave it unattended or in view if left in your car.

Day 8: Park your car in secure, well-lit areas and make sure all windows are closed, doors locked, and no items are in view.

Day 9: Secure all doors and windows in your house and consider leaving on a light if coming back late so you are not coming home to a dark house.

Day 10: Don’t leave Christmas presents in view from outside of your home.

Day 11: If you’re expecting deliveries, always make sure someone is there to collect them. Arrange for a trusted neighbour to take them in or make use of the pick-up points offered by the companies.

Day 12: If you’re going away make sure your home looks occupied, use a timer switch for lights or ask a trusted friend or neighbour to check on your property.
