Check where your polling station is and take photo ID to vote
Elections are happening across Hertfordshire this Thursday, and residents are being reminded to check where their local polling station is and to take ID with them when they vote.
Anyone registered to vote in person at the Hertfordshire County Council elections must vote at their assigned polling station on Election Day (Thursday 1 May) between 7am – 10pm.
Residents must be registered in order to vote and will need to show photo ID at the polling station.
A wide range of photographic identification will be acceptable. These include:
- Passport
- Driving Licence
- Various concessionary travel passes
- Proof of Age Standards Scheme (PASS) card
- National identity card issued by an EEA state
The full list of acceptable documents can be found here
Joanne Wagstaffe, Returning Officer at Three Rivers District Council, said: “With only days to go, make sure you’re ready for the elections on Thursday 1 May. Staff at the polling station will check your ID before giving out a ballot paper. If you do forget your ID, you can always come back later in the day, polling stations are open until 10pm.
“Anyone concerned about showing their face at a polling station, because they wear a face covering for example, can ask to have their ID checked in private. They won’t need to give a reason for their request or explain why they’d prefer privacy. Staff will be trained to handle requests for ID to be checked in private, discreetly and with courtesy.”
You will only need to show one form of photo ID. It needs to be the original version and not a photocopy. You can still use your photo ID if it's out of date, as long as it looks like you. The name on your ID should be the same name you used to register to vote.
If voters lose their ID, or their Voter Authority Certificate does not arrive in time for election day, they can appoint an emergency proxy to vote on their behalf up until 5pm on election day. The person appointed as proxy must have their own acceptable photo ID.
To find out where your polling station is, please use the Polling station finder.
