After careful consideration of over 50 entries - a fantastic response - the panel of judges have made their decision and the winner of the Three Rivers Young Journalist of the Year competition was announced at the latest Youth Council on Tuesday 12th October.

Nina Hosking of the Rickmansworth & Chorleywood Community Times (the competition sponsors) presented the awards. The overall winner was Will Bordell, aged 16, who was chosen as overall winner with his piece entitled Up in flames about the media hype that was created over the US Pastor who threatened to burn copies of the Qur’an. There were also runners up prizes for Gregor McKay (aged 14) and Hannah Dukony (aged 10).

Ann Shaw, Council leader and Youth Champion, said ‘Good communication skills are vital, this includes writing and speaking as well as IT. It was clear that the young people who entered this competition understand that. We were impressed with their ability.’
