Watersmeet opened on 1 May 1975. It was due to be opened by Princess Alexandra but she was indisposed so it was actually opened by the Lord Lieutenant of Hertfordshire, Major General Sir George Burns.

Leader of Three Rivers District Councillor Ann Shaw OBE comments “Watersmeet has become a really important facility for this community, we all value it very highly “

Over the years Watersmeet has hosted a wide variety of events from Ballets and Balls to Weddings and Graduations. Watersmeet has had cars on stage, dames on stage not to mention stars on stage.

Famous people that have trodden its boards have included Kenneth Connagh, Jess Conrad, Shane Ritchie, Linda Robson, Jonathan Ansell and many more.

To celebrate its 40th birthday, Watersmeet hosted a special coffee morning on Friday 16 October to thank the Friends of Watersmeet volunteers. Over 60 people attended and thoroughly enjoyed reminiscing about the events that had taken place over the years.

In the evening the venue screened a special Sing-a-long-a Rocky Horror Picture Show which also celebrated it’s 40th birthday this year.
