An official ceremony has taken place to thank everyone involved who has helped transform Leavesden Country Park into an award-winning facility.

Leavesden Country Park was named 'most improved space of the year' at the Green Flag awards last year after the park was transformed with a £1.2 million investment into a much-loved community space with gardens, walks, a community hub, a restored cemetery and sculpture trail.

At a ceremony held last week at Leavesden HIVE, Cllr Sarah Nelmes, Leader of Three Rivers District Council, described the 27-hectare park as a fantastic community facility.

She said: "Everyone involved should feel rightfully proud of this achievement. There are many who have helped make the park the success story it is, including community groups, the YMCA, The Cycle Hub and the Woodlands Café, as well as council officers who have worked tirelessly. The Leavesden Hospital History Association, led by Martin Brooks, also did incredible work with the superb restoration of East Lane Cemetery.”

Work to transform the park started in 2013 when local residents were consulted on how best to restore the park whilst preserving its rich heritage. The project's three funding partners, Three Rivers District Council, National Lottery Heritage Fund and Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, worked together to deliver the project.

Those in attendance at the celebration held at Leavesden HIVE included the Leader of Three Rivers, Cllr Sarah Nelmes; the Chair of Three Rivers, Cllr Keith Martin; Chairman of Abbots Langley Parish Council, Cllr Stephen Giles-Medhurst; David Bisoni and Rachel Parsons of Warner Bros Studios, Leavesden; the Friends of Leavesden Country Park and council officers.
