Plan update that protects Rickmansworth’s history and character goes for consultation

Have your say on a key document that aims to protect and preserve the history and character of Rickmansworth town.
Three Rivers District Council is updating the town’s Conservation Area Character Appraisal and Management Plan (CAAMP) and is seeking views from residents.
Rickmansworth was first designated as a conservation area in 1974, which means it has additional planning control and considerations in order to protect the area’s special character, appearance and features that make it unique and distinctive.
While also setting out new and amending old guidance, the CAAMP also reviews the conservation area boundary where three locally important buildings at Rickmansworth Station and The Telephone Exchange on Rectory Lane could be included in the appraisal.
Cllr Louise Price, Deputy Leader of the council and Lead Member for Resources, Regeneration and Economic Development, said: “Rickmansworth is a unique and special town with interesting characteristics and a rich history dating all the way back to the Ice Ages.
“It is therefore important we ensure our CAAMP is up to date so the area’s heritage, character area, open spaces and landscapes are protected from inappropriate development for the next generation to enjoy and learn from.
“We are very keen to hear what areas and spaces make Rickmansworth special to you and if there any changes you would like to see in the appraisal or if there any other buildings or assets of historic or architectural value that should be included in the conservation area boundary. Make sure you have your say today.”
There is also a public exhibition of the Rickmansworth CAAMP where members of the public are invited to view the plan and discuss this with officers on Thursday 16 July. The plan can be seen at Three Rivers House in Northway, Rickmansworth, WD3 1RL, from 3:30pm - 7:30pm.
The CAAMP consultation closes on Wednesday 12 August and be found here.
