Register to vote in by-elections in December
Residents eligible to vote in an upcoming by-election are being reminded to register to vote and of the requirement to show photo ID when at a polling station.
A by-election for the Three Rivers District Council ward of Chorleywood South and Maple Cross will take place on 14 December following the resignation of former district councillor Phil Williams. A by-election for Chorleywood South ward of Chorleywood Parish Council will also take place on the same day.
Residents must be on the electoral register to be able to vote. With the registration deadline on Tuesday 28 November, those who are not registered at their current address are being reminded to make sure they are registered before it is too late. It takes just five minutes to apply online at gov.uk/register-to-vote.
If you intend to vote in person at the polling station you will need to show photo-ID before you are given any ballot papers.
Voters may already have a form of photo ID that is acceptable and can use any of the following:
Driving licence (including provisional license)
Certain concessionary travel cards
Identity card with PASS mark (Proof of Age Standards Scheme)
Biometric Immigration document
Defence identity card
Certain national identity cards
For more information on which forms of photo ID will be accepted, visit electoralcommission.org.uk/voterIDor call their helpline on 0800 328 0280.
Anyone who doesn’t already have an accepted form of photo ID can apply for a free voter ID document, known as a Voter Authority Certificate. The deadline for applications for Voter Authority Certificates to be received by the Council’s Electoral Services Team is 5pm on 6 December 2023.
You can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate at voter-authority-certificate.service.gov.ukif you are not able to complete the online form then residents can complete a paper application form and send this to the Three Rivers District Council electoral services team:
