The new play area in Southway, Abbots Langley was officially opened today for picnics and play.

The huge range of equipment housed in this innovative playground contains super slides, superior see-saws, a very zippy zip wire, individually created climbing trees and more things to play on, in and around than ever before!

Plus there is even something for the adults to do, whilst the children play, adults can make use of the new outdoor gym, which includes a ski machine, rowing apparatus, exercise bike and much more!

Speaking ahead of the opening, Council Chairman Councillor Kemal Butt said:

“I am delighted that the community has received this state-of-the-art play space which local residents have played an active roll in selecting.  This is the sixth play area to benefit from a makeover and re-enforces our vision for play in the district.”

Extensive consultation was undertaken with local schools, community groups and residents to identify their wish list for their new play area.

The new playground features the following equipment: Trampoline, climbing trees, pendulum basket swing, large net climbing unit, zip wire, sand play area, spinning disc, spinning see-saw, toddler swings, embankment slide, raised sensory planting, natural play space and seating areas.

A new, free to use outdoor gym will consist of: Leg press, fitness bike, ski machine, hand bike, chest press and seated rower.

Funding for the play area was made available via Three Rivers District Council and the Watford Community Housing Trust, through their Better Communities Fund. The Trust’s contribution was secured through a funding application which was submitted by the Hillside Residents Association.
