Why not join our elections team?

NewsUpdated: 16 January 2026Elections and democracy

Have you ever thought of getting involved at election time by either working at a polling station or at the count?

The Three Rivers Election Team is looking for new people to help – and now is your chance to get involved in the elections on 7 May this year.

The council is looking for presiding officers and poll clerks – these are roles located in polling stations across the district on Polling Day. There are also opportunities to work as count staff helping with counting the votes at Watersmeet in Rickmansworth.

When you work at an election it is vital that everyone has confidence in your impartiality. As part of this, you cannot do any of the following:

  • Campaign for a political party or candidate
  • Display publicity material on your car or home, for a political party or candidate
  • Have a member of your immediate family who is an elected representative or a prospective candidate
  • Subscribe to any candidate's nomination papers at the election.

If appointed, you will have to show you are entitled to work in the UK. You will need to provide one of the following:

  • A valid passport
  • A full birth certificate issued in the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man or Northern Ireland, plus an official document giving your permanent National Insurance number
  • A residence permit, registration certificate or document showing you are entitled to live in the UK permanently.
