New allotments will be built at Primrose Hill Playing Fields in Abbots Langley, it was announced last night (Monday 2 April).

Three Rivers' Executive Committee considered a proposal from Abbots Langley Parish Council  to use the money, which was provided by private developers to support local amenities close to the Ovaltine development, to build the much needed allotments.

Section 106 funds are paid by developers to help local services and facilities cope with the extra demand that arises from the development of new homes. Payments may be made for education, children's play areas, road and footpath improvements, for example.

Just over £73,000 of the Ovaltine development's Section 106 funds for community purposes remain and the Parish Council has costed the allotment works at £62,000.

The playing fields are currently leased to the Parish Council from the District Council for a period of 99 years - of which 72 years remain.
