Three Rivers District Council hosted the Pensioners’ Forum on 28 June 2019

Three Rivers District Council hosted the Pensioners’ Forum on 28 June 2019. The Pensioners heard from Phil Millard, Essex and Herts Air Ambulance who has volunteered with the service for over 20 years.

Cllr Liz Burns, CEO and founder of the Veterans Support Group, Abbots Langley, shared information about the benefits, help and assistance available for veterans. The floor was then opened to the audience to discuss issues relevant to pensioners. They debated the subject of BBC TV licences with enthusiasm. Finally, Jan and Andrew Taylor took the stage with four laidback greyhounds giving an informative and interactive talk about the sad life of greyhounds as racing dogs. They told the audience how Castledon Greyhound Rescue are re-housing retired dogs.

A poignant moment was their description of the dog’s tragic destiny when discarded by the industry. They added Castledon Greyhound Rescue seek suitable retirement homes for racing dogs who make ideal pets for pensioners.

The dogs proved themselves with their excellent behaviour and friendliness. Everybody loved the dogs and the forum continues to provide a voice for the pensioners.

Cllr Joy Mann, Chair of the Pensioners’ Forum, said: “I am delighted that we had great interaction from the pensioners and the delightful dogs. We look forward to seeing you at our next forum on Friday 8 November, from 1.30pm onwards when we will have an exciting programme with key note speakers and wonderful music.”
