Temporary traffic lights will be in place on a key route in Rickmansworth to enable essential tree removal works.

Motorists are advised to plan ahead on Thursday 9 July as contractors, working on behalf of Three Rivers District Council, will be removing three willow trees as well as pruning another two willow trees on Riverside Drive.

The three trees due to be removed have extensive basal decay, which is usually caused by a wood-destroying fungi that can compromise a tree’s physical stability.

For the works to be undertaken safely, one lane near Ebury Way Play Area (opposite the allotments) will need be closed with two-way traffic-controlled lights in situ from 9:30am – 3:30pm.

The tree works will continue on Friday 10 July but with no traffic management in place. The contractors will also provide marshals for the shared cycle and footpath on both dates whilst the work is taking place.

Cllr Aidan Bentley, the council’s Lead Member for Climate Change and Sustainability, said: “While it is always sad to see a tree felled, it is essential that these three willow trees are removed in order to protect other nearby trees from this spreadable disease as well as the public from the degrading wood which poses a health and safety risk.

“To ensure the public are safe, the one lane closure is needed for the works to be carried out. Delays are likely, so please plan ahead. Thank you very much for your patience and understanding.”
